This page is our weekly progress log for the Greg Moore re-conversion and refit of the Model 60 Long range sportfisher 1994 Mikelson yacht 750 HP 24 knot as of May 13th 2015.
All new engines, mechanical, electrical, appliances, gel kote and paint will be 100% restored and the hull core readied to like new condition.  Sea trails to commence upon completion. 

        Greg Moore's team is doing complete refit down to hull. Project begins Feb 24th, 2014 at the Host shipyard Neilson and Beaumonts shipyard on shelter island and is Estimated to take 16 months and cost $210,000 cash plus one and half year of the engineers time and 4000 additional man hours to make her beautiful again. Thats $300,000 hard solid new boat build effort as of May 13th 2015. 
      Boat Yard San Diego will facilitate restoration after Shelter Island Boat yards Wayne host crane and engine removal services. Naval Architectural support by Dick Peterson and his knowledgeable staff of brokers at Mikelson yachts. 
    Diesel Engine technical support by James Garcia of Hawthorne never materialized, nor did support from valley diesel the MTU dealer  nor did a half a dozen top diesel engine consultants and especially ricks machine shop they all sucked. We were on our own.  So we hired from MTU of germany the shop foreman Hans Fuhrer and we bought our own diesel engine shop for close to a quarter million dollars for just the tools. A year later we are in full production with several other german diesel rebuilds underway. We quite possibly may have the best engine rebuild shop in the county right now. Other major engine sales agencies are asking us to rebuild for them. We like offering the heavy material handling and machine shop capabilities all in house.

Restoration period ending May 1st

All fuel tanks emptied. remaining good fuel transferred to center tank. Transfer switch and pump replaced. All water removed from tanks. 


Aft deck head repaired, new motor and pump installed. 

Aft deck overhead lights replaced X 3, aft deck deck lights replaced with blue LED lights. All salon switches and receptacles replaced. New switch plates labeled with nylon labels. heads and state room switches and lighting replaced. 

All 22 overhead lighting fixtures were replaced with new monte carlo series by aqua signal recessed lighting. All head lighting replaced. Shower lighting replaced.
3 way and 4 way switches replaced.  

Bunk lights replaced with new LED lights. 

Laundry room lights and receptacles changed with new. Light is wet location LED strip. 

Battery charger over haul begins, diodes ordered, new transformer and new dc amp meter. 

Sump pump auto manual switch changed. 

Sump auto switch procured and installed. Sump manual position repaired. 

Forward bilge pump manual switch repaired.

Aft cockpit below decks cleaned down to core and storage boxes cleaned. 

Flybridge electrical rewiring begun. Panels renewing, lighting change, electronics repairs beginning. 

2 heads repaired and modified to eliminate expensive auto timer and a switch added to MSR that a,lows bowl to fill or flush, an upgraded design with labeling and warning labels. 

Laundry room and flooded washer dryer cleaned and all old spare parts flushed with fresh water and cleaned. 

All fuel tanks were tested with dip sticks and compared to tank tender meters for fluid level calibrations.

All fuel remaining was filtered and run through water separator, 500 gallons of fresh water was leached off the good fuel and disposed of in 10- 55 gallon drums and taken to fuel dock for paid disposal. 

readied and replaced valance lighting, floor lighting, deck lighting, cabin lighting, mood lighting, LED cleaning lighting, swivel spot lights, bunk lights, flood lights aft DC all changed with new modern fixtures. 

Basic electrical worked on to the point boat is safe from fire and power goes to each system for checking and repairing all branch circuits. Ships is alive again. 

Alarms high water, fire and smoke detectors all working. Day to day ships operations proving and improving all systems like macerators, fuel transfer, oil transfer, navigation lighting, ships lighting, engine room lighting, fresh water heating and storage. Plumbing, showers and sinks all being operated every day. Galley systems working, ships shore power all being used and renewed each time a new system is touched or operated, Any bugs that pop up or reappear are made a priority and discovered fully so a full offshore ready repair can be made and be conclusive as a 100% fix.  

A lot more time spent under the decks, in engine room, under cockpit for a continual survey and survey update. All items inspected and not appearing to work or look like or as new is put on list and renewed. The engineer is seeking a flawless boats who every technical system is simplified, modernized and changed to easy to get off the shelf components. especially components that were original 1994 items like working pumps that pass inspection but manufactures dates are original. All those get replaced and old units added to spare parts bins. 

More engine research. New engines, old runners swap out, other boats to buy with good engines, MTU research and technical research. Engine repairs are stalled while staging for new, used or rebuild. All sizes and dimensions were added to survey. 

All electronics and parts model numbers and dimensions being added to survey report for in the cloud inventory system for engineering.
